Mooks – A Trendy Dining Experience

Mooks (a.k.a. monne legui mooks) holds a special place in my heart. Combining a trendy atmosphere, delicious food, and friendly staff, it keeps me coming back time after time. Mooks is located in the small pottery town of Hasami. The owners, originally from Tokyo, opened Mooks about 3 years ago. Their urban and international perspective on food, presentation, and atmosphere make Mooks unique not only for Hasami, but for the whole of Nagasaki prefecture.

Shanghai Chinese Restaurant

Menu CoverJust across Nagasaki Prefecture’s border, about a ten minute drive from Nagasaki’s own Hasami, lies the town of Arita. Part of Saga Prefecture, Arita is world-renowned for its beautiful hand-crafted pottery. While I appreciate Arita for its pottery (though most of it is far above my pay grade), I appreciate it even more for a little Chinese restaurant called Shanghai. While Nagasaki City boasts one of only three Chinatowns in Japan and, therefore, some great Chinese restaurants, it’s a bit far to travel for those of us in the northern parts of Nagasaki Prefecture that develop a sudden craving for delicious Chinese food.
